Where to find the best Hiking Trails in Johannesburg
Johannesburg has many hiking trails many of them have a wide variety of wildlife, birdlife, waterfalls, rivers. If you are looking for some hiking trails to explore here are few you can try.
Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens

Witpoortjie Falls
Probably the best Hiking trail in Johannesburg is the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens in Roodepoort, with luscious, bushveld, a bird garden and some great views including the Witpoorjie Falls where the most common trail Mountain View Walk starts.
The Garden is open daily from 8 am – 18:00 more information is available on www.sanbi.org.
Kloofendal Nature Reserve
Also located in Roodepoort is the Kloofendal Nature Reserve which has four Walking trails namely Dasie, Rocky Ridge, Struben and Wetland each trail is clearly marked and the distance varies on each trail, so you can easily choose the trail you want depending on the distance you want to cover.
Admission into this nature reserve is free and it is also open daily from 6 am – 6 pm and more information on trail distances is available here
Klipsriviersburg Nature Reserve
Only 10km south of the City Centre is the Klipsriversburg Nature Reserve, There are six hiking trails in this Reserve. Some animals to look out for are Zebra, the black wildebeest and springbok. The entrance to the nature reserve is on Peggy Vera street and caution must be taken when using your GPS as this may take you to the other entrance. Admission into the Reserve is also free.
These are just some of the many hiking trails around Johannesburg, they are either free, or there is a fee. I have visited them many times and I am never disappointed. Try them out and see for yourself.
